Jim Blakley Notes
Elevation: 4087 feet. Located in the San Rafael Wilderness. The mountain which is composed of Monterey Shale has a large grass covered south facing slope. This area was used by the Davis family homesteaders on Manzana Creek to pasture horses during dry years. In a cave on the potrero, a drip spring provided water caught in a redwood water trough. Over the years drip stone has almost entirely encased the old wooden trough.
Bald Mountain Canyon drains the south edge of the potrero and ran into the Sisquoc River a short distance up stream from the school house. Located at the mouth of this canyon was once the Forest Service Station for the area. Weather and time have collapsed the old station building.
