Almost an afterthought, except for surfers, Corral Beach is almost halfway between Refugio and El Capitan State Parks. The turnoff into the dirt parking area isn’t an easy one but what it offers is quick access to one of the area’s more secluded beaches.

Beach Walk Details

  • Length : 1.5 miles east to El Capitan; 1 mile west to Refugio Beach.
  • Tide Notes : You can't venture too far either east or west on the beach unless the tide is close to or below 2.0 but you can get around some spots by walking on the bike path.
  • Cautions : You have to cross the railroad tracks which can be very dangerous, especially with kids. Steep bank to descend onto the bike path.
  • UseFees : None
  • Canine : Dogs are not allowed on state park beaches and access to Corral Beach is on state park land.

Things to Know

Take care exiting the highway and returning onto it. There is no formally constructed path leading down to the beach. Take care when crossing the train tracks when walking down to and back up from the beach.
