While much of East beach is taken up with volleyball courts and soft sand for sunning, there is plenty of room to explore along the water’s edge, east to Butterfly Beach or west to the Harbor. When the tide is high you can also walk along the paved bike and pedestrian path to the Harbor or cross Cabrillo and follow the paved path to the Andree Clark Bird Refuge.

  • Length : 1.25 miles from the Wharf to East Beach; 1.25 miles west to Shoreline Park
  • Tide Notes : Low tide required to reach Butterfly Beach.
  • Accessibility : Bike n' Walk path allows handicap access along the beachfront.
  • UseFees : There is a charge at the parking lot near the East Beach Pavillion but there is also a lot of street parking.
  • Canine : Dogs not allowed along the city beachfront from East to West Beach.

Access / Parking

  1. Stearns Wharf is at the end of State Street.
  2. Turn left on Cabrillo Boulevard and drive a mile east of the wharf to the point where you see the volleyball courts and parking for the East Beach Pavillion.
  3. Both paid parking and off street parking is available along Cabrillo, though it may be hard to find on street parking during the summer or on weekends.

 


Things to Know

The Pavillion is a great place to eat and hang out. There are volleyball courts and children's play equipment near the Pavillion.
