The walk down to the beach from the parking lot along Padaro Lane is not much but once on the beach the tall cliffs that mark Loon Point provide an intense coloring as sunset nears. The point itself is rocky and passable only at lower tides but it is a wonderful place to watch the sun go down.

Beach Walk Details

  • Length : It is a 2.5 mile walk from the point to to Santa Claus Village; or 1 mile from Loon Point west to Lookout Park.
  • Tide Notes : Loon Point passable only at medium to lower tides.
  • Cautions : To reach the beach you need to walk along a section of the railroad tracks. While there is plenty of room, supervise children and dogs closely.
  • UseFees : None
  • Canine : Dogs are allowed on the beach if on leash.

Access / Parking

  1. From State Street, follow Highway 101 east for 6.5 miles to the Padaro Lane off ramp, which is just past the Summerland area.
  2. Turn right on Padaro.
  3. Look for the Loon Point parking area on the left side of Padaro Lane, .2 miles from the freeway.
