Old Man Mountain -

From East Camino Cielo if you follow the ridge dividing SB from Ventura County from Murietta Divide up to the linterior, Old Man Mountain appears as if the point of it hooks to the left.

Old Man Mountain is 5,525 feet tall and is located on the ridge between Santa Barbara and Ventura County, just south of Monte Arido which is 6,003 feet tall. Old Man Canyon drains the east side of Old Man Mountain down to Matilija Creek. Named for Jose F. Ortega who, in 1895 filed a 80 acre homestead claim from the state iri Section 16 at the mouth of the canyon. Near what was known as Flat on Slide Rock at a big pool in Matilija Creek, he built a frame house that was later burned in one of the frequent brush fires of the region.
