The walk out to the end of the breakwater is one of those that defines Santa Barbara’s charm: clusters of sailboats and motor yachts lining the docks; mountain views and the Channel Islands off in the distance. Near the end of the breakwater you can walk out onto the sandspit and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.

  • Length : 1.25 miles from the Wharf to East Beach; 1.25 miles west to Shoreline Park
  • Tide Notes : 1.5 miles out and back to Wharf and Breakwater total.
  • Accessibility : Bike n' Walk path allows handicap access along the beachfront and the walkway
  • UseFees : There is a charge at the parking lots near the Harbor.
  • Canine : Dogs not allowed along the city beachfront from East to West Beach.

Access / Parking

  1. Stearns Wharf is at the end of State Street.
  2. There is limited parking on or near it along Cabrillo Boulevard.
  3. You'll find more ample parking near the breakwater where there are several parking areas and parking here provides quick access to a walk on the breakwater. The first 75 minutes of parking are free.
