This peak is the tallest peak in the Santa Ynez Mountain Range. On July 8, 1934 notice was given in a News-Press article that "...on Monday, a new lookout with a 30 foot steel tower would be started on Santa Ynez Peak. It is located between Refugio Pass and San Marcos Pass and will give a good view of all parts of the range."
